Whoa, did you catch that game? Afghanistan just surprised everyone and beat England by 69 runs in the Cricket World Cup. Yep, the same England that were the defending champs!
So here’s the scoop: England chose to let Afghanistan bat first. The Afghan team set up a solid 285-run target. Special shoutout to Rahmanullah Gurbaz who scored a quick 80 runs off 57 balls and Ikram Alikhil who pulled off a half-century. Some brilliant batting towards the end by Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman boosted the score.
When it was England’s turn, they started pretty shaky. Jonny Bairstow got out super early, thanks to Fazalhaq Farooqi. After that, the Afghan spinners were on fire. Mujeeb bowled out Joe Root and Mohammad Nabi took out Dawid Malan. England’s captain, Jos Buttler, didn’t do much either, getting out after just nine runs.
Rashid Khan made things even tougher for England by taking out Liam Livingstone and Adil Rashid. Harry Brook tried to save the day with a 66-run play, but Mujeeb had him out by the 35th over.

Just to give some background: England started the tournament a bit shaky, losing to New Zealand but beating Bangladesh. Afghanistan, on the other hand, had two big losses before this.
Anyway, major props to Afghanistan for this awesome win! Who saw that coming? 🎉🏏
