Soreng, August 3: Soreng district’s Freedom Run, organized by the District Administration in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, Nasha Mukt Sikkim Abhiyan (NMSA), and the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, saw an impressive turnout. The marathon, flagged off by Ms. Tila Devi Gurung, Zilla Adhakshya of Soreng, featured various categories, with winners receiving cash prizes and certificates. The participation of 228 runners, including a special non-competitive marathon for officials and civil society members, highlighted the community’s united stand against drug abuse.
Freedom Run: Namchi’s Vibrant Response
Namchi, August 3 : Namchi’s Freedom Run, flagged off by Ms. Anupa Tamling, DC Namchi, also echoed the state’s anti-drug message. With around 300 participants, including notable runners like Mr. Premius Bhutia and Ms. Asha Phurba Tamang, the event underscored the importance of sports in promoting a drug-free lifestyle. The DC emphasized the need to support those struggling with addiction and praised the community’s involvement in the event.

Mangan, August 3 : Mangan’s 5 km marathon, organized in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, witnessed robust participation. Gangtok, August 3 : The District Administrative Center (DAC) Gangtok’s Freedom Run, graced by Mr. Samdup Lepcha, Minister of Social Welfare, saw participation from diverse groups. The event included a 10 km and a 5 km run, indoor sports for rehabilitation center residents, and cultural performances. Winners received medals, trophies, and certificates, fostering a sense of community and support against drug addiction.

Attractive prizes and certificates were awarded to the top finishers, reinforcing the district’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles.
