Inspiring Speeches and Sessions at National Space Day
Dr. Sandeep Tambe, the Chief Guest, spoke about the importance of National Space Day. He emphasized that space technology can inspire young people and increase their curiosity. He mentioned that India’s successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 was a result of teamwork among scientists, engineers, technicians, and politicians. Dr. Tambe also highlighted two major challenges faced by the youth in Sikkim: climate change and the rise of bacterial and fungal diseases affecting cash crops.
Dr. Shamrao from ISRO talked about India’s space program, focusing on Chandrayaan-3. He explained how the spacecraft was tested to ensure a successful soft landing on the moon. He proudly stated that India’s status in the world has risen due to this achievement.
Mr. D.G. Shrestha discussed the importance of satellite data. He mentioned how this data helps identify “vulnerable lakes” in Sikkim. For example, there were no small lakes above Gurudongmar Lake in 1941, but now there are over 300 lakes due to glacier melting. He explained that satellite data can also be used in agriculture, soil studies, and environmental protection.
The event also included an audio-visual presentation by the NESAC Exhibition Team. The videos showcased Chandrayaan-3’s journey, Prime Minister Modi’s reaction to the moon landing, and India’s advancements in technology.
