Ola S1 Pro+ Gen 3

Ola Electric, one of India’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturers, has officially rolled out the S1 Pro+ Gen 3 which is third-generation premium electric scooter. Designed to offer both performance and practicality, the new flagship model is priced at ₹1.69 lakh (ex-showroom) and boasts a certified range of up to 320 kilometres, making it the longest-range electric scooter available in the Indian market.

With this launch, Ola aims to consolidate its position in the highly competitive EV segment while addressing past concerns around performance consistency, range anxiety, and safety. The Pro+ Gen 3 is more than just an upgrade — it represents a complete overhaul of the company’s electric scooter platform.

A New Architecture for a New Era: Ola S1 Pro+ Gen 3

At the core of the S1 Pro+ Gen 3 lies an entirely new mid-drive motor system—a departure from the hub motors used in earlier versions. This shift enables more efficient power delivery, smoother acceleration, and better weight distribution. Mated with a chain-driven transmission, the 13 kW motor allows the scooter to sprint from 0 to 40 km/h in just 2.1 seconds, with a claimed top speed of 141 km/h — the fastest among e-scooters in India.

The motor is managed by an integrated Motor Control Unit (MCU) that dynamically adjusts torque and efficiency, depending on terrain and ride mode. According to company officials, this allows for better thermal management and consistent performance, even in high-traffic urban conditions.

Innovative Battery as a Structural Element

One of the most talked-about upgrades in this model is Ola’s use of the 4680-format ‘Bharat Cell’ battery. In the 5.3 kWh variant, the battery is integrated into the chassis as a load-bearing structure. This not only increases the scooter’s frame rigidity but also enhances safety in case of impact.

The battery setup is thermally protected and water-resistant, designed for varying Indian weather conditions. It supports regenerative braking and delivers a certified range of 320 km under standard test conditions. Real-world range, as tested by early adopters, falls between 180 km and 220 km based on driving habits and road conditions.

A 4 kWh variant is also offered, promising a slightly lower range of 242 km, with reduced weight and cost.

Safety Comes Standard

The Pro+ Gen 3 introduces several safety enhancements. It is the first Ola scooter to feature dual-channel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), enabling better braking stability, especially during sudden stops. Along with that, the model includes a brake-by-wire system, which electronically manages braking pressure and allows for improved regenerative energy recovery.

This version also incorporates traction control, ensuring the scooter remains stable during sharp turns or sudden changes in road grip. These features make it more commuter-friendly for riders navigating unpredictable Indian traffic.

User Interface and Connectivity

The scooter comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display and runs on MoveOS 5, Ola’s proprietary operating system. It offers features like:

Notably, while these features are offered free for the first three years, Ola has announced a subscription-based model for continued access thereafter. Some users have expressed concerns about long-term affordability due to this shift.

Pricing and Warranty

The S1 Pro+ Gen 3 is currently available at an introductory price of ₹1,69,999 for the 5.3 kWh variant, and ₹1,54,999 for the 4 kWh version. Prices are likely to increase as demand grows and production costs fluctuate.

Standard warranty on the battery is 3 years or 30,000 km, which can be extended up to 8 years or 125,000 km through an additional paid plan, priced at around ₹12,999 to ₹15,999 depending on the coverage duration.

Availability and Expansion

Ola Electric has begun delivering the Gen 3 scooters in over 100 Indian cities. The company is leveraging its network of Ola Experience Centres, along with direct-to-door delivery services. However, recent reports indicate that 90% of its showrooms in Maharashtra face closure due to regulatory issues related to trade certificates. Ola has said it is working with the authorities to resolve the matter.

Despite this challenge, the brand maintains its focus on expansion, with plans to set up more high-speed charging stations and service hubs over the next year.

Ola Electric Positioning in the Market

The Ola S1 Pro+ Gen 3 competes directly with models like the Ather 450 Apex, TVS X, and Bajaj Chetak Premium. Where it scores higher is in battery capacity, range, and acceleration. However, Ola still lags behind in after-sales service experience, something the company has pledged to improve in FY2025–26.

The Pro+ is best suited for urban commuters looking for a combination of performance and connectivity. The optional Hyper Mode caters to thrill-seekers, while the Eco Mode extends the battery for longer city rides.

Financial Outlook and Company Strategy

While Ola Electric has introduced an impressive product on paper, the company is under financial strain. It reported a ₹428 crore loss in Q1 FY26, even as it reduced operational expenses by over 40%. Ola’s leadership, however, is optimistic about reaching profitability by FY26, driven by the Gen 3 platform and battery cell localization.

CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has hinted at upcoming launches in the motorcycle and mass-market scooter segments by the end of 2025, building on the technological base laid by the Pro+ Gen 3.
