Gangtok, 24th July: The HUB for the Empowerment of Women, Gangtok District, organized a successful Women Legislation and Welfare Scheme Awareness Programme at the GMC Hall, Deorali. The event attracted a large group of women from Deorali and Lower M.G. Marg wards, eager to learn about their legal rights and available welfare benefits.
Key speakers, including Ms. Mon Maya Subba, Advocate from the Women & Child Development Department (HQ); Ms. Manikala Gurung, Senior Welfare Officer (DAC Gangtok); and local councillors, provided valuable insights into laws protecting women and government schemes designed for their welfare. The programme also highlighted important initiatives like the Sikkim Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana (SASY) Scheme and the SANKALP programme, aimed at empowering women in the community.

The event emphasized the importance of awareness and access to resources, such as helplines 181 and 1093, for women facing violence or discrimination. While the programme was a positive step towards empowering women, there is a need for continuous engagement and broader outreach to ensure all women in the region are informed and supported.
