The Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE), Chemchey, Namchi District, has achieved a remarkable feat. A ten-member team successfully completed an expedition to the summits of Mt. Kangyatse -I and Mt. Kangyatse -II in Ladakh. This impressive journey was led by Mr. Rajiv Rai and Ms. Shanti Rai as the technical leaders, and the expedition was officially flagged off by Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang on July 10, 2024.
The team embarked on their journey from Markha village in Leh on July 17, reaching the Base Camp the next day. Initially, the plan was to conquer Mt. Kangyatse-II first. However, due to technical and weather-related challenges, the team decided to ascend Mt. Kangyatse-I first. They reached the Annapurna Base Camp on July 20 and began their ascent at 10:30 PM. The team successfully reached the summit of Mt. Kangyatse-I (6,400 meters) at 5:00 AM on July 21.
Following their triumph, the team immediately set their sights on Mt. Kangyatse-II. On July 22, they successfully reached the summit (6,240 meters) within seven hours. The entire expedition was completed within a week, showcasing the team’s determination and skill.
The expedition was generously funded by the State Government. The IHCAE team expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister, the Minister for the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation.
This expedition not only highlights the spirit of adventure but also the importance of eco-tourism and the exploration of the pristine beauty of the Indian Himalayas. The IHCAE continues to promote sustainable tourism and adventure activities, inspiring many to explore and appreciate the natural wonders of our country.
